Geared Stepper Motors
SLW Motor builds geared stepper motors from 8mm to 15mm in diameter, with straight or 90° shaft gearboxes and custom ratios, for open-loop positioning tasks that don't need a feedback sensor.
A geared stepper motor attaches a gearbox to the motor's gear train, trading speed for output torque and finer resolution at the shaft. Position is tracked by counting steps, not reading a sensor, so the assembly runs open-loop.

| Motor | Shaft Output | Gear Ratios | Output at 500 pps | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8mm stepper motor with 10mm gearbox | Straight | 20:1–250:1 | Step angle to 0.072° | Micro positioning in wearables and instruments |
| 8mm stepper motor with 12mm gearbox | Straight, 9mm gearbox | 10:1–298:1 | 5–150 rpm, 35–918 g·cm pull-in torque | Slightly wider gearbox for more torque on the 8mm motor |
| 8mm stepper motor, parallel output shaft | Offset parallel | 50:1–380:1 | 173–1,170 g·cm pull-in torque | Offset axis for low-profile layouts |
| 8mm stepper motor with 90° shaft gearbox | 90° right-angle | 42:1–158:1 | 146–487 g·cm pull-in torque | Right-angle positioning in the smallest envelope |
| 10mm stepper motor with gearbox | Straight, 9–12mm gearbox | 10:1–1000:1 | 1.5–150 rpm, 59–3,960 g·cm pull-in torque, step angle to 0.018° | Smooth, repeatable positioning in compact assemblies |
| 10mm stepper motor with 90° shaft gearbox | 90° right-angle | 42:1–230:1 | 249–1,056 g·cm pull-in torque | Directional transmission in tight housings |
| 15mm diameter 12 stepper motor with gearbox | Straight | 10:1–1000:1 | Step angle to 0.018° | Wider gearbox platform for mechanical stability |
| 15mm diameter 15 stepper motor with gearbox | Straight, fixed 10mm gearbox length | 42:1–230:1 | 265–1,050 g·cm pull-in torque | Moderate-to-high reduction without a longer housing |
| 15mm stepper motor with 90° shaft gearbox | 90° right-angle | 42:1–230:1 | 529–2,240 g·cm pull-in torque | Right-angle positioning needing extra structural rigidity |
| 15mm stepper motor with worm gearbox | 90° worm, self-locking | 42:1–230:1 | 529–2,240 g·cm pull-in torque | Positioning that must hold without holding current |
Every unit in this micro stepper motor range is a stepper motor with gearbox built and matched in-house; the 8mm worm-geared variants (08 and 10) sit under worm gear motors, and all 90° stepper units are also collected under right angle gear motors.

Ratio and shaft orientation come from the tables above, and winding voltage is matched to your stepper driver, while housing and gear materials follow the application.
Open-loop keeps wiring simple, but missed steps and backlash limit accuracy, and hold current raises winding temperature; stepper gear motors vs BLDC with encoder covers that boundary.
Open-loop stepping suits gimbal indexing and precise positioning in Learn More, and it also drives valve and pump metering, lock actuation, and lens positioning in Power Tools.
The same open-loop control keeps movement simple and reliable in robotic indexing tasks without feedback.

If the mechanism needs continuous rotation, closed-loop feedback, or higher speed rather than step-based holding, these alternatives use the same gearbox principle without the open-loop limits above.
Broader ranges include brushed DC motors, brushless DC motors, coreless DC motors, and high speed brushless motors.
Send a target ratio, shaft orientation, voltage, and housing material and contact SLW Motor for sample cost, lead time, and a quotation on a geared stepper motor built to your drawing.

For closed-loop position feedback, the 12mm N20 Micro Brushed Gear Motor with Encoder reports position back to the controller.
The 12mm Coreless Motor with Worm Gearbox holds its position without continuous current.
For continuous rotation at higher efficiency, the 16mm Brushless Coreless Motor with Planetary Gearbox is the alternative.
The 22mm Brushed Coreless Motor with Planetary Gearbox also turns continuously, with higher torque density.
SLW Motor has manufactured micro motors and gearboxes in Shenzhen since 2012, with 56+ staff and 15+ years of R&D experience, including work for Japanese manufacturing clients.
Shipments reach 30+ countries, and small-batch samples and bulk orders run through the same OEM/ODM process.
